Last year the duo undertook a series of live events entitled TWO at Berlin’s Funkhaus, Barcelona’s Theatre Grec (closing Sonar Festival’s 25th Anniversary), London’s Barbican Centre and Melbourne’s Hammer Hall, before culminating at Sydney Opera House, where their two hour set was recorded and edited down, forming this album. The concert saw the pair performing new improvised work and key collaborative compositions from their joint catalogue, which has now reached five albums, one major film score and an EP. This performance of the score by Echo Collective, a regular at Days Off, follows the ensemble’s superb orchestral rendition of Radiohead’s Amnesiac in 2018.TWO captures the esteemed duo’s 2018 performance at Sydney Opera House. It shows another side of his talent, closer to baroque music than his work for film and his albums, on which there were often electronic arrangements in places, which is not the case here.

Nine years after his first visit to the Cité de la musique, Japanese master Ryuichi Sakamoto returns with German electronic musician Alva Noto to perform from the repertoire the duo has refined over a series of six albums. A remarkable event with this appearance by Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto-two key figures in adventurous music-making and collaborators for nearly a decade, together mapping out new landscapes between piano, percussions and sound processing.
